What are family Constellations?

A group therapy approach that seeks to uncover and resolve deep-rooted issues connected to unresolved lineage dynamics, ancestry, and hidden loyalties within a family system. Developed by Bert Hellinger in the 80's, we now understand (via epigenetics) that many of our challenges—such as emotional struggles, relationship conflicts, and life patterns—are linked to unresolved issues passed down through generations.

In a family constellation session, participants or representatives intuitively step into the roles of family members or significant relationships, allowing hidden dynamics to surface. Both the person being constellated and the person representing receive an opportunity to reconcile old memories in their subconscious from the awareness to hidden dynamics, allowing healing and resolution.

How to prepare for your session

How long are they?

Sessions last between 1.5 and 2 hours

How does a session work?

In group, 1:1, or online settings, representatives (people or objects) stand in for family members. This "constellation" reveals unconscious patterns, which the facilitator then helps shift toward resolution.

As the person being constellated what should I expect?

You’ll start by observing the interactions within the 'field,' which represents your family system. Various representatives will embody family members or elements of your system, though initially, their roles will remain undisclosed. As the session progresses, the facilitator will reveal who each representative embodies, allowing you to recognize underlying dynamics. Through guided declarations and intentional exchanges, you’ll witness how balance and order can be restored within the system, providing a new perspective and eventually greater harmony within yourself.

What abilities do I have to have to represent?

None. The facilitator will ask questions and prompt you by asking how you're feeling. You can then describe if you're feeling anything in particular. If you aren't feeling anything that's ok too. There is no way to do it wrong.

Do I need to know my family history or bring family members?

No. You just need openness. The process taps into systemic information beyond conscious knowledge, often surfacing what’s most relevant.

Is it spiritual or psychological and how does it differ from traditional talk therapy?

Both. It combines systemic psychology with spiritual and energetic insights, working on emotional, somatic, and ancestral levels.

It’s experiential and somatic. Instead of verbal analysis, it uses movement, positioning, and relational dynamics to bring quick, embodied insight and resolution.

What benefits can I expect?

  • Clarity on life and relational patterns

  • Emotional release and healing

  • Stronger sense of identity and belonging

  • Improved boundaries and relationships

  • Inner peace with one’s lineage
